Grave Digger

Dig up old graves
just to make new ones,
piling body upon body;
I recognize the faces
but don't feel anything,
numbed by all the years of goodbyes.
Pack them in tight,
family, friends, lovers.
No need for headstones,
their names are engraved in my skin.
Burying them I know,
they'll always be haunting my memories.

HA HA HA!
do you see what you've created?
it's a mess
a spill
that is spreading
and seeping
and no matter how many tries
no matter how many attempts
to clean it up
the good
is only turned to a sopping ruin
by the bad.
I cannot care anymore.
what you thought would heal
has only killed.
the hope that was building
has burned
and dwindled
and faded away
leaving only the cold
again
